British migrant and brewer Samuel Smith founded Yalumba in 1849, he and his son planting the first vines near Angaston by moonlight. Five generations later, under Robert Hill-Smith, Yalumba is among Australia's oldest family wineries.

Yalumba makes their wines from a patchwork of old grower vineyards in the Barossa and Eden Valleys. Their sustainable viticulture program, started in the 1990s, now encompasses all aspects of winemaking, production and distribution. It incorporates distinctive elements such as a grape vine nursery and on site cooperage. While the winery is famous for producing classic Australian full bodied red wines, they also work extensively with the non-traditional variety Viognier.

Yalumba's lead wine is The Caley. Other Rare & Fine range highlights include The Octavius Shiraz and The Virgilius Viognier. Their next tiers are the Distinguished Sites and Aged Fortified Collections.
